Does this picture look wrong or inappropriate to you?
Not to me.
It’s not because I am culturally blunt, or advertisement is not in my wheel house.
No. If anyone had seen something ‘sexually provocative or insulting’, well, I am not going into any argument with them, as I do to all internet bashers.
This controversial advert of Audi was officially dropped by the German car maker after a wave of viral criticism on social media.
What was the matter?
The little girl holding a peeled banana which to some people suggests sexual implication, was leaning on the front of the Audi, which was alleged as in a position of the driver’s blind spot!
Give me a break…
So, in that logic, sports car plus banana equals sex plus road danger…
So, had the girl held an apple instead and stood beside the car, would it be ‘correct’ by whatever ‘xxly correct’ standards?
Audi removed the ads anyway with a tweet:
Another triumph of the internet ruffianism which seems to be ubiquitous yet oftentimes unprincipled, freewheeling, and unreasonably belligerent.
Our world today is not plagued by such insensitivity, rather, we are growing too sensitive, literally to everything and anything.
*In “The Big Bang Theory”,Sheldon Cooper
questions Amy’s way of eating a banana horizontally to which Amy replies
that it’s how her mother told a good girl eats a banana.
