搜索中文“安全”一词，基本得到的都是“健康安全”、“安全生产”方面的内容和网站，这也是我们开始建设一个Security专业网站的初衷。
今天我们来聊聊security和safety的分别，这也是大多数人搞不清的两个概念。
首先，从翻译的角度而言，大陆汉语把这两次英文词都译作“安全”，造成了一定的混淆。这方面，台湾的国语翻译较准确。在台湾国语中，security叫作“保全”，safety叫作“健安”，字面意思很清楚，不会混淆。新加坡国语把security译为“保安”。大陆国语也有些场合把security译为“安保”的，这也不会和safety混为一体。
从security和safety的本意而言，security和safety最大的区别在于：
简单说，就是两者的目的不同。
我在员工培训时常用一句话这样总结security和safety的不同——safety是和坏天气坏环境作斗争的；security是和坏人坏事做斗争的。
往往这样一说，员工们就理解了。
在Linked-in上看到一位同行写的一篇文章中这样解释：
The Difference Between Safety and Security:
Think of security as if it were the umbrella in a storm protecting you from the rain. Your safety lies in the importance of staying warm and dry. Security is the safeguard that ensures our safety remains constant. If the variables risking our safety can be predicted, they can be prevented. Inside our homes, thermostats maintain cozy room temperatures. Locks secure doors. The outside world is not so easily controlled. Weather forecasts may warn us of rain, but safety still requires our participation: Awareness + Preparation = Safety

在大多数国企中，security类似于“保卫科”，而safety类似于“安监”部门。“安监”管生产安全，保卫科管抓小偷。这样简单地对比也能帮助听众理解。
在大多数外企中，security在组织架构中的地位都没有safety高。其Safety部门大多叫HSE或EHS，工作职责涵盖员工健康、生产安全和环境保护等方面。而security部门在不同企业中的职责有很大不同，有些公司的security部门主要负责员工犯罪和合规调查，有些主要管货损预防和调查，有的管品牌保护打假等，有的还负责人员背景调查等。
一般而言，外企security部门的常规职责包括：
- 安全培训
- 危机管理协调
- 员工犯罪调查
- 群体事件处理
- 要人护卫
