Over one million demonstrators took to the streets of Rio de Janeiro, protesting against corruption, police brutality, poor public services, and the government’s excess spending on the World Cup.
It was the biggest demonstration Brazil had seen in decades.
The Brazilian riot police fired pepper spray and rubber bullets into the crowds, causing dozens to be injured.
In the meantime, multiple demonstrations were reported in other 80 cities across the country, making the total turnout close to 2 million people.
